Your privacy is important to us. Greyston Law Corporation ("Greyston Law", "we", “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of your Personal Information in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
Scope
This Privacy Policy explains the type of information Greyston Law collects during its normal operations, including how Greyston Law may disclose that personal information.
Much of the Personal Information collected, used, or disclosed by Greyston Law is related to the provision of legal services and is protected by solicitor-client privilege, regulatory requirements governing the legal profession in the jurisdictions where we operate, and codes of professional ethics. These principles and rules apply to any Personal Information in Greyston Law’s custody or control and are not superseded by this Privacy Policy.
The Site may contain links to other websites or resources operated by third parties (collectively called “Other Sites”). Greyston Law is not responsible for, nor does it have control over, Other Sites, their business practices, goods, services, or content. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these Other Sites and remind you that your dealings with their owners and operators are at your own risk.
Greyston Law complies with the Personal Information Protection Act (British Columbia) ("BC PIPA"), the Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta) ("Alberta PIPA"), and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada) ("PIPEDA") as applicable. This Privacy Policy should be interpreted in harmony with the provisions of those Acts where they are in effect.
What is Personal Information?
For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, “Personal Information” means information about an identifiable individual, but it does not include an employee’s name, title, business address, or telephone number when these are used for a business purpose.
Provision of Personal Information to Greyston Law
There are various interactions with Greyston Law through which you may provide us with your Personal Information including:
Opening a client file;
Sending an e-mail to or calling Greyston Law seeking professional legal services;
The type of Personal Information you provide depends on the nature of the interaction with the firm and often the information will not be personal in nature because it will be contact information to allow us to contact you at your place of work. However, where the information is Personal Information, we will comply with applicable privacy legislation in the collection, use and disclosure of that Personal Information.
Consent
Consent can be implied or express. Providing your Personal Information to Greyston Law through the Site indicates your consent to its collection, use, and disclosure as detailed in this Privacy Policy. Using the Site means you agree to these terms. If you disagree, avoid using the Site. We collect standard info like IP addresses, time, date, referring sites, search data, and pages visited to analyze usage, improve functionality, and enhance user experience. You may also give Personal Information when opening a client file, working with Greyston Law, or registering for a legal session. In such cases, we rely on consent as appropriate. Under privacy laws, we may use or disclose your Personal Information without your knowledge or consent when legally required. You can withdraw consent anytime, and we will cease using or disclosing your Personal Information accordingly.
Use of Personal Information
If you provide Greyston Law with your Personal Information, we will use it for the purpose it was collected. If given through the Site, we use it to communicate, respond to requests, ensure site functionality, or review site effectiveness. If provided for legal services, we use it to communicate, provide services, and meet legal requirements. For legal info sessions or marketing, we use it to notify you about events or initiatives of interest or relevance. We may also use it for any other lawful purpose.
Site Creates no Lawyer /Client Relationship
No Lawyer/Client, advisory or fiduciary of relationship is created by any use of the Site or by use of this Privacy Policy including by any use of the Site to communicate with GLC by email or through this Site.
The Site may not be used to request legal advice or to transmit any confidential information relating to the provision of legal advice.
Any information that you transmit to Greyston Law through the Site may not be secure, may not be treated as confidential and is not protected by solicitor-client privilege.
We will collect your name, address, telephone number, email address and any additional details you choose to provide to us if you complete the form located in the subscription area of our Site in order to receive newsletters or promotional material. We will use this Personal Information solely for the purposes of including your information in our database and in our mailing list in order to provide you with the requested information and to invite you to upcoming events that may be of interest to you and to respond to any specific request that you have made.
Cookies
When an individual visitor accesses the Site, we may use a browser feature called a ‘cookie’ to collect information such as the type of internet browser and operating system the visitor uses, the domain name of the Site from which the visitor came, date and duration of the visit, the number of visits, the average time spent on the Site, pages viewed and number of cookies accumulated. A cookie is a small text file containing a unique identification number that identifies the visitor’s browser, but not necessarily the visitor, to our computers each time our Site is visited. Unless a visitor specifically informs us (e.g. by registering for an event or sending us correspondence from the Site), we will not know who the individual visitors are. In addition to the identified purposes described in our Privacy Policy, we may use this information to measure the use of our Site, to improve the functionality and content of the Site and to facilitate usage by a visitor. We do not sell your Personal Information to third parties. We may disclose your Personal Information: (a) as required or permitted by law; (b) to protect our rights and property; (c) to service providers who perform services on our behalf, subject to confidentiality obligations; (d) with your consent; or (e) as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy to fulfil the identified purposes for which we collected the Personal Information.
Security of Information
We recognize our professional and legal obligations to protect the confidential information of our clients. We recognize as well our legal obligations to protect the Personal Information we have gathered about our clients and about other individuals during the course of our practice of law. We have therefore made arrangements to secure against the unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or destruction of Personal Information no Site or physical protection of Personal Information can be completely secure. Therefore you should not send confidential or sensitive information by the internet or by email unless you take appropriate precautions such as encryption.
How can I access my Personal Information?
Subject to the exceptions set out in applicable law, including where required by solicitor-client privilege, we will provide you with access to any of your Personal Information that we have collected, used or disclosed upon written request. We will also advise you to whom that Personal Information has been disclosed, except where we are permitted or required not to do so by applicable law. We will respond to your request within 30 days or as required by applicable privacy legislation.

Greyston Law reserves the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy at its sole discretion at any time without notice to you.
